EP Review: Cavalier Dualities

Having emerged from the shadows of the pandemic, Seethe, the brainchild of Patrick McElravy, has carved a sonic niche blending Nu Metal aggression with contemporary electronic flourishes. "Cavalier Dualities," his latest EP, is a brief but impactful exploration of duality, loss, and the struggle to keep afloat in a chaotic world. It's a powerful and personal journey, marked by both raw pain and glimmers of hope. The EP is dedicated to the memory of McElravy's late friend, Dave Sinkus, adding a layer of poignancy to the already introspective lyrics.

The EP opens with "Medicate," a track characterized by hypnotic electronic elements and a booming, distorted 808 beat. McElravy's anguished vocals grapple with the numbing weight of pain and the desperate search for solace, revealing a raw vulnerability. The track is emotionally charged, setting the tone for the EP, drawing listeners into its dark and brooding atmosphere.

"Smile," the second track, takes another approach, juxtaposing light against shadow. Despite its upbeat title, the lyrics paint a picture of societal pressure to maintain a cheerful exterior despite the gnawing emptiness within. The track's unsettling undertone is accentuated by McElravy's melancholic vocals, creating a sense of unease over a backdrop of pounding beats and distorted guitars.

Closing out the EP is "In Two," a track that dives deeper into the fractured nature of identity and self-perception. The lyrics explore the feeling of being torn apart, struggling to reconcile opposing forces within oneself. The song builds to a powerful climax, with McElravy's vocals soaring over a backdrop of both melodic and thunderous instrumentals, culminating in a cathartic release of emotion.

As a whole, "Cavalier Dualities" is an EP that demands to be heard, offering a glimpse into the complexities of the human experience.

Additionally, Seethe's new single "Away" from the forthcoming EP, "and when the angels sing of our laments, our names will spurn our final breath," will be released on Valentine's Day, offering another glimpse into what lies ahead for this artist. Pre-save here
